Hello, Sir. How are you? I haven’t greeted you for a long time.
Do you still remember me? I am a person who had asked many things to you.hehe..
Few time a go, I visited your site and I found it disappeared. Maybe there was a bit problem with your site, wasn’t it?
Sir, I’ve read many articles written in english. Therefore I think I’ve been good enough in reading. But honestly, I am still quite bad in both speaking and listening. It’s so difficult for me to express what I want to say before people especially those who have spoken english fluenlty. Beside that, the speed of natives speaking is too fast so that I can’t totally understand what they mean.
Do you have any suggestion how to improve my english especially in those aspects?
thank you.

Hi Burhan,
I’m fine, thank you. Of course, I do still remember you.
How are you?
Yes, there was a little problem with my blog at that time because, frankly speaking, I didn’t extend my blog’s domain at the web hosting on time. I was broke but, fortunately, a friend of mine paid it for me. It was embarrassing, huh? So, I then started thinking but is it fair enough if I ask for donation to cover my expenses for web hosting, internet connection, and stuff?
Now, let’s get back to how to improve our speaking and listening skill.
To tell you the truth, you’re not alone. Since we are not native English speakers, I think most of us, if not all, have similar issue to these regards. They require more time to master than the grammar does. My own ways to improve them have been mostly covered in my writing entitled “Mengapa Kemampuan Bahasa Inggris Saya Kurang Berkembang“. Besides, just to add my points in that article, while you’re listening, don’t translate what others are saying word by word but grab their main ideas (sentence by sentence) instead! This (plus the article) probably doesn’t suit you, but it worked (and still works) for me.

I’m fine too, thank you. It’s my pleasure to know that you still remember me.
Thank you for your another worth information, sir. I’ve read your article and I thought I had read it previously.hehe. But the first time I red it, I might not be really focused on it. Regarding your question, I think it will be fair if you would like to ask for donation. You have been really kind to me and another people who have taken many benefits from your tremendous blog. Maybe it’s now people turn to assist you. Helping each other is a laudable action, isn’t it?

Pak. Bhas, saya baru menemukan kebingunagan setelah sekian lama. Mengenai gerund setelah preposisi, khususnya TO,
Selama ini saya selalu membuat kalimat seperti ini,
1. I want TO watch the football match.
tapi kemarin saya lihat di VOA, kalimat dibawah ini benar.
2. I’m looking forward TO watching TV.
lalu, apa benar menggunakan beberapa kata kerja sekaligus.
I want to go to watch the football match (Aku ingin pergi menonton pertandingan sepak bola itu).
Thank you so much for all your help.

Saya mau tanya, Mr. Kalimat yg paling tepat yg mana ya…
How much antique furniture do you think there is? atau, how many antique furnitures do you think there is?
Swara Bhaskara
November 8, 2011
The word furniture belongs to non-count nouns, so the better one from the two is:
But, I would prefer to modify the sentence a bit, as follows,
If you’d like, please the provided link!

So, what do you think the best one? How much antique furniture do you think there is? or how many sets of antique furniture do you think there are?
Swara Bhaskara
November 9, 2011
First of all, I’d like to suggest you to use comparative (better), instead of superlative (best) because you are comparing only two nouns, namely, 1 (How much antique furniture do you think there is?) and 2 (How many sets of antique furniture do you think there are?).
Well, both sentences are grammatically correct, so, grammatically, the first sentence is as good as the second one. But, as I said earlier, I prefer to use the latter because from the answer I would most likely get a definite number ( for instance, ten, 90, 5 hundreds, etc) sets of furniture.
