Common Irregular Verbs

Regular verbs, yang dalam bahasa Indonesia disebut “Kata Kerja Beraturan“, adalah kata-kata kerja dimana bentuk verb1 ke verb2 atau ke verb3 berubah dengan menambahkan imbuhan -ed, atau hanya dengan menambahkan imbuhan -d saja jika verb-nya diakhiri dengan huruf e. Misalnya: dare – dared – dared (berani, lancang); encourage – encouraged – encouraged (mendorong/memicu semangat), dst.

Sebaliknya, irregular verbs (Kata Kerja Tidak Beraturan) adalah kata-kata kerja yang perubahan dari verb1 ke verb2 atau ke verb3 tidak dengan menambahkan imbuhan -ed, atau -d. Kata-kata kerja ini berubah secara tidak beraturan.

Mengingat jumlah kata kerja sangat banyak dan sebagian besar merupakan regular verbs, maka yang perlu dihafalkan adalah irregular verbs. Kata-kata dalam tabel berikut adalah common irregular verbs atau kata kerja tidak beraturan yang sering digunakan baik dalam speaking maupun writing.

How to memorize irregular verbs?

Agar tidak cepat lupa, salah satu caranya adalah dengan membuat kalimat-kalimat sendiri. Buatlah kalimat yang menimbulkan kesan, sebab kesan akan selalu lebih lama melengket dalam memori anda. Kalimat anda juga akan berkesan, jika anda tuliskan di bagian Leave a Reply or Questions di bawah ini. Tulisan anda akan direvisi, jika perlu direvisi. Well done, Icethetic. However, here are some tiny mistakes in your writing. My suggestions are in capitalized words.

He (usually) BEGINS TO read a newspaper after breakfast.
He (usually) BEGINS READING a newspaper after breakfast.

Note: “Begin” jika diikuti oleh kata kerja, maka kata kerja yang mengikuti tersebut harus dalam bentuk infinitive(to + verb1) atau bisa juga dalam bentuk gerund (verb-ing), tetapi tidak pernah dalam simple form (kata kerja dasar/verb1). Di kalimat di atas saya sisipkan “usually” dan “after breakfast” agar pembaca lebih yakin bahwa “Mulai membaca koran yang dilakukan oleh he” merupakan suatu habit/rutinitas, dan kalimatnya benar kalau dinyatakan dalam simple present tense. Jika kalimatnya hanya mengekspresikan satu action “mulai membaca” dan action tersebut telah berakhir maka kalimatnya adalah dalam pola simple past tense, sebagai berikut:

He BEGAN TO read a newspaper.
He BEGAN READING a newspaper

Amy blow up a red balloon. ?
Apakah AMY kerjaannya jual balon merah sehingga dia rutin meniup balon merah (sebelum dijual)? Jika YA, kalimatnya:

Amy BLOWS up red balloons.

Tetapi, jika “meniup balon”-nya SEDANG dilakukan oleh Amy pada saat kalimat ini diungkapkan, maka:

Amy IS BLOWING up a red balloon

Sedang untuk kalimat berikut hanya perlu ditambahkan IT, WAS, dan verb2 dari recognize.

Amy had a red balloon so she blew and blew IT until it got so big and fat,but unfortunately her balloon WAS blown by the wind to the sky.

Kayaknya, sangat sulit bagi saya untuk membantu dalam pronunciation via tulisan. Kalau kita ngomong langsung akan jauh lebih guampang. Tapi, kalau mau googling, ada banyak situs yang berisikan word pronunciation.

and we discussed it clearly… it’s so great
since i found this site i always spend my time till 4hours at day to learn while chatting and continuing it at night maybe for 3 hours or more till midnight, even.
i hope my english can improve faster.. hahahaha
for the first, i learn it in part of speech but i still stuck at using of infinitive and gerunds, it make me so confused for different these.
maybe i’ll make the new questions on those links..

i’m very interested in your blog sir, even sometimes i become forget opening my facebook it’s all because focus to this site..
usually i was online just for updating my status on facebook but since i found it, it becomes different.

Nice try. I like that. However, the two sentences you wrote should have been like the following ones.

My Father has drunk his tea three times.

That milk was drunk by my little brother last night.

NOTE:
In sentence 1, you’d like to express “TELAH minum“, right? Because of the word “telah“, a sentence should be in the present perfect tense (i.e. has drunk).

In sentence 2, please pay attention to its time modifier. It is “last night“, which is in the past, so your second sentence should have been in the simple past tense.
