Another Memorable day
It was around 8 p.m.
I was sitting in front of my computer when my daughter suddenly closed my eyes from behind.
- Me : What are you doing, honey?
- My daughter : Please stay still, dad!
- Me : But what are you doing?
She didn’t answer my question. She was busy wrapping my head with a shawl.
Everything then looked dark because my eyes were completely covered. So, when she slowly ushered me to the family room, I could barely walk. It took us forever to move from the computer room to the living room.
After having sat on the couch, my daughter unleashed the shawl from my head. The room was dark. The light was intentionally turned off. In the dark, I saw my wife sitting in front of me. She was smiling and looking at me when she lit the candles.
What a surprise. Yup, they were all for my birthday. Frankly, I was deeply touched. It was another memorable moment in my life. Thanks guys for the attention you showed me. I love you all.
Vocabs:
- stay still = diam, jangan bergerak
- wrap = membungkus
- shawl = selendang
- be covered = tertutup
- usher = menuntun/memandu
- can barely = hampir tidak bisa
- forever = lama sekali (sebuah kiasan hiperbolik).
- unleashe = melepaskan ikatan
- be turned off = dimatikan/dipadamkan
Kesimpulan
Jika aktivitas/kejadian telah dilakukan/terjadi dan berakhir in the past, gunakanlah simple past tense. Sedangkan, jika aktivitas tersebut sedang in action/in progress pada waktu yang sangat spesifik in the past, gunakanlah past continuous tense.

i`ll try to answer this ..
i`m not speak english very well, so i wil speak in indonesia
1. menurut sya no.1 itu menggunakan tenses past yg pasif krn itu menyatakan hal yg telah terjadi. so, buang e dan b karena.
tnggal opsi a,c,d
semoga membantu

Great. There’re only some small suggestions:

Suddenly, my younger brother exited his bedroom and hugged me tightly. I was so happy to meet all my family on the last Lebaran day.

Hi Devi,
I am passing by for leaving a suggestion about the letter “i”.
As far as I know, the letter ” i ” when used to describe ones self is always written as a capital irrespective of whether its in the middle of the sentence or not.
eg. “I will go home.” or “Can I come?”
Any comment Sir??

Yes, you’re absolutely correct that the subject pronoun “I” should always be in a capital letter. I think this kind of mistakes is due to a bad habit, laziness.

Thank you sir.. but, i want to try to make a story again in order to improve my writing.
Accidentally, i met my exboyfriend at Book Fair yesterday. I was surprised when noticed (that) he looked vey different.
He came with his new girlfriend and i felt a little jealous, cause i just came with myself, after i had worked.
So, after short conversation, i left him to continue looking for the best book that i need.

bukankah ini adalah cerita dalam bentuk past? tapi kenapa dalam dialognya menggunakan bentuk present progrsiv tense? bukankah seharusnya:
Me : What was you doing, honey? dan seterusnya
Tolong penjelasannya

Hi Dayat,
Kalimat-kalimat dalam dialog tersebut adalah kalimat langsung (direct speech) yang kebetulan dinyatakan dalam present continuous tense dan simple present tense.

English is so difficult.. i’m not understand about grammar n tenses.. what can I do Sir?

July 26, 2011
Hi Fitri,
Would you like to tell us what confuses you the most? I’m afraid we’re not able to provide you any useful tip unless you do so. But, from your writing, it seems to me that what you said it’s not entirely true. You only made a tiny mistake in the second sentence. By omitting the be am and replacing it with do, your sentence would be perfect.
I do not understand about (the English) grammar and tenses.

Hi,Sir..
i just read this article. Wow, that’s kewl & romantic. once, after i finished reading your article, the only thing in my mind was : English is beautiful, especially yours,Sir.You actually use the right words for each sentences, like : lit the candles and others.
Once more, u always answer every question with different methods,so it also answers the other question indirectly.Hmm..i like your style,Sir..

Morning Sir, I want to practice using simple past tense and past continuous tense, as follow:
Yesterday was my first day on Swara Bhaskara’s English. I found this blog by searching on google.com. After registered, I logged in to this blog and chatted to the author of this blog, Mr. Swara Bhaskara. Part of our lines as follows:
Me: Sir could you please help me, from where I can start to learn English on this blog?
while I was asking this question, my net connection was getting slow, it took me forever to get an answer from him, finally he replied me:
Swara Bhaskara: You can start from this link.
Then I asked permission from him for jumping to the link, it was a Practice Test 1: Where To Start.
There was a story on Swara Bhaskara’s English.
Sir/friends, I am looking the feedback on my practice by using simple past tense and past continuous tense. Thanks in advance.
