(Mereka (dulu) berteman).</li> </ol> <p>Yang perlu diperhatikan di tensis ini adalah:</p> <ol> <li>digunakannya be "was" dan "were" kalau kalimatnya berupa <a href="../../../discussion-forum/tanya-jawab/predicate-adjective-dan-predicate-nominative/" rel="nofollow">kalimat nominal </a>(predikatnya bukan berupa kata kerja). Dan kalau predikatnya berupa kata kerja, maka gunakalah verb2.</li> <li>kenapa atau kapan poin 1 digunakan?   1. He was poor. (Dia (dulu) miskin).
  2. She was a good dancer. (Dia (dulu) penari yang bagus).
  3. They were friends. (Mereka (dulu) berteman).

Yang perlu diperhatikan di tensis ini adalah:

  1. digunakannya be “was” dan “were” kalau kalimatnya berupa kalimat nominal (predikatnya bukan berupa kata kerja). Dan kalau predikatnya berupa kata kerja, maka gunakalah verb2.
  2. kenapa atau kapan poin 1 digunakan? Ini sudah didiskusikan di posting di atas.

Fakta dari kalimat ini adalah: “Dia tidak di sini sekarang” dan karena dia tidak di sini, tentu saja “Dia tidak dapat membantu kita untuk menyelesaikan soal matematika ini“.

Kalau fakta ini di-English-kan :

    He is not here now.
    He can’t help us solve this math problem.

Faktanya dalam simple present tense, bukan? Kalau BULE dengan gampang membuat kalimat pengandaian dalam bahasa Indonesia, yaitu, hanya dengan menambahkan kata seandainya, andaikan, jikalau atau sejenisnya, tapi bagi kita sedikit lebih rumit, dimana selain menambahkan kata IF atau sejenisnya, kita juga perlu merubah tensis, yang dalam contoh ini dari simple present tense ke past tense. PLUS, be WAS in American English tidak digunakan dalam kalimat pengandaian.

    Andaikan dia ada di sini sekarang, dia dapat membantu kita untuk menyelesaikan soal matematika ini.
    If he were here now, he could help us solve this math problem.

Di kedua contoh ini, main clausenya adalah "<em>I FEEL bad</em>" dan <em>"I KNOW</em>", keduanya dalam simple present tense. Apakah main clausenya bisa dalam past tense? Bisa, but, konteksnya tentu saja akan berubah. <ul> <em>I FELT bad I didn't come.</em></ul> Di kalimat ini, MERASA BERSALAH-nya adalah in the past. Tergantung konteksnya.
